Capacity Statement
Research, Training and Management International (RTMI) is a woman lead resource organization registered with the Government of Bangladesh (GOB). It provides high quality technical and management support to the institutions/concerns working in development sectors primarily targeting poor and underprivileged people under the overall guidance of a Management Board. RTMI has three major areas of work: Research and Evaluation, Training and Capacity Building, and Program Support and Management. Recent activities of RTMI focused in health, population and nutrition (HPN), education and human resources development sectors for the design, implementation and development activities.
RTMI was established as an independent NGO in 1994 with the name ‘JSI Research and Training Institute, Bangladesh (JSI Bangladesh)’ and as an affiliate of John Snow Incorporated, a leading public health organization incorporated in USA. From July 2004, JSI USA phased out its financial support and JSI Bangladesh changed its name to ‘Research, Training and Management (RTMI) International’ with the approval of its registration authority in Bangladesh. RTMI is currently working as a sustainable entity with ‘business’ linkages and associations with multiple donors, government and private sector institutions. RTMI over the years has built an in-house human resource pool of 60 professionals with diversified background and experience in the development field. Besides it has established a strong working relationship with resources from different development organizations and universities, whose expertise could be availed of at a short notice. The clientele of RTMI include almost all UN bodies working in Bangladesh (UNHCR, UNFPA, UNAIDS, UNICEF, UN Women, IOM, WHO, WFP, FAO), World Bank, USAID and many international organizations namely, Women for Women International, American University in collaboration with Rotterdam School of Management (RSM), Warwick Business School (WBS) and University of Cologne, Social Impact (SI), Innovations for Poverty Action (IPA), FHI360, Pathfinder International, Helen Keller International, Australian Council for Educational Research, ICF-Macro, JICA, Micronutrient Initiative, Save the Children, University Research Corporation, Ipas Bangladesh, Rockefeller Foundation, IPPF, Chemonics, PATH, Swisscontact, John Hopkins University (JHU), GIZ, Engender Health, Columbia University, Aberdeen University, JSI, JHPIEGO, and the Government of Bangladesh. A brief summary of RTMI’s key competency areas and activities are presented below:

• Research and Evaluation
RTMI’s research unit has conducted over 100 studies during the last ten years for government, NGOs, Private Sector, and International Organizations. During this period RTMI conducted and developed studies including the data collection tools and instruments, as appropriate and finalized them in consultation with the client. Different innovative approaches were also developed for understanding both rural and urban communities of Bangladesh. RTMI has long experience of organizing and conducting trainings and capacity building programs for GO/NGO and Private Sector organizations. As a part of the training activities the organization has assessed the training needs and developed training modules and materials, trainer’s handbook, participant’s handbook, pre and post training evaluation toolkits in relation to those needs. • Emergency Humanitarian Response
RTMI has participated in many humanitarian and development activities during the last 15 years. RTMI has a policy to work with the concerned government departments and development partners in case of emergency responses. Recently, RTMI has responded to both the post disaster ROANU and MORA and placed midwifes in Union Health & Family Welfare centrs (UHFWCs) in the coastal areas of Chittagong, Cox’s Bazar, Barguna and Patuakhali and distributed vouchers, RH kits, dignity kits among the affected women. • Project Designing and Implementation
RTMI participated in the design of ADB funded (over $100 million) urban primary health care project involving NGOs and local government institutions and the design team was led by the President of RTMI. RTMI strongly believes in the principle of effective and speedy achievement of goals through sound partnership arrangements. RTMI has also established networking linkages with six NGOs (one NGO from each administrative division of the country) to ensure national coverage of its technical and capacity building support in a decentralized manner. These multi-sectoral national NGOs (medium to large size) are working for the improvement of the livelihood of the poor. RTMI thus maintains close linkages with a number of leading NGOs and private organizations in Bangladesh.
