Nutrition

RTMI stands at the forefront of addressing malnutrition, with a dedicated emphasis on improving maternal nutrition and Infant and Young Child Feeding (IYCF) practices. Recognizing that the first 1,000 days of life - from conception to a child’s second birthday - are critical for long-term health and development, the organization implements targeted, evidence-based interventions to support mothers and children in vulnerable communities.

Maternal nutrition directly impacts the health and well-being of both mothers and their babies. RTMI ensures pregnant and breastfeeding women receive the necessary guidance and support to meet their nutritional needs. Through programs that provide education, supplementation, and access to nutrient-rich foods, the organization improves maternal health outcomes and contributes to healthier pregnancies and births.

RTMI prioritizes exclusive breastfeeding for the first six months of life, recognizing it as the cornerstone of infant nutrition. The organization collaborates with healthcare workers, community leaders, and families to promote breastfeeding, educate on its benefits, and provide practical support for mothers. Beyond the six-month mark, RTMI guides caregivers in introducing appropriate complementary foods that meet the growing nutritional needs of children while continuing breastfeeding up to two years and beyond.

Education is key to sustainable change. RTMI conducts workshops and community outreach programs to raise awareness about the importance of proper maternal and child nutrition. The organization equips caregivers with the knowledge to adopt and sustain optimal feeding practices, fostering a supportive environment for healthier families.

In humanitarian settings, where access to food and healthcare is often disrupted, RTMI implements emergency nutrition programs to protect the most vulnerable. These include breastfeeding support for displaced mothers and therapeutic feeding interventions for malnourished children, ensuring no child is left behind during crises.

RTMI works in partnership with governments, healthcare systems, UN entities and international organizations to scale its efforts and advocate for policy changes that prioritize maternal and child nutrition. By integrating IYCF and maternal nutrition into broader health and development programs, the organization creates a ripple effect of improved health outcomes across generations.

Every mother deserves the resources to nourish her child, and every child deserves the chance to grow, thrive, and reach their full potential. Through its unwavering commitment to maternal and child nutrition, RTMI is transforming lives and building healthier futures for the communities it serves.
