Training and Capacity Building

 

RTMI has long experience of organizing and conducting trainings and capacity building programs for GO/NGO and Private Sector organizations. As a part of the training activities the organization has assessed the training needs and developed training modules and materials, trainer’s handbook, participant’s handbook, pre and post training evaluation toolkits in relation to those needs. It has provided onsite mentoring and technical support to different organizations and institutions during the last ten years. It has also partnered with different national and international organizations in providing support and technical assistance through its staff and consultants. RTMI follows a participatory approach in imparting capacity building and training programs, since it believes that participation brings in ownership. During the last five years, RTMI has organized training programs in Team Building, Organizational Development, Strategic Planning, Appreciative Inquiry, Leadership Development, Financial Management, Institutional Development, Facilitative Supervision, Management Information System (MIS), Monitoring and Evaluation, Violence Against Women, Citizens Monitoring and Public Services, Training for Garment Sectors for ensuring Compliance of standards, etc. RTMI has also organized technical skill training in Avian Influenza, Livestock Officials training on commodity management (including personal protection equipment), Computer training for Myanmar refugees, counseling, maternal and Child health, Family Planning, Nutrition, Tuberculosis, Infection prevention, etc. RTMI has also managed training events for the World Bank, UNICEF and many other organizations.  All these training activities were supported by donors and/or local institutions.

RTMI has a strong team of training staff based in Dhaka and also maintains a pool of resources in its data base. RTMI has also established a Human Resources Development Complex (HRDC) in Sylhet City, with a pool of resources and trainers. It has already established a Community Paramedics (two-year course after 10th grade), Diploma and Graduate program in Nursing, Diploma in Midwifery, Diploma and Graduate program in Health Technology, a Medical Assistants Training Course (four years after 10th Grade) and many other short courses on skills development through Institutes/College in Sylhet. These courses are approved by the concerned government authorities. In addition, the founder of RTMI has also established a Technical University in Sylhet, which is providing multi-dimensional skills education in different sectors and disciplines. The university is legally authorized to conduct short and long-term courses on skills development. RTMI will continue its close collaboration with the university to expedite approval and certification process for skill training.

RTMI has worked as the capacity building partner of FHI (in BAP), HKI (in REAL Project), Chemonics (in Smiling Sun clinical training), AED (in AI. Com project), UNFPA (in DBRHCP and Rohingya refugee projects) and many other programs. RTMI has served as the capacity building partner of Ipas Bangladesh in supporting infection prevention and PAC services in the country, RTMI with URC’s TBCARE-II project has provided pre-service training on TB to medical students from private and public Medical colleges. RTMI provided training on Facility-based Integrated Management of Childhood Illnesses (IMCI), Community-based IMCI, Management of RTI/ STI and other reproductive health issues to NGO clinic service providers under SSFP. As a partner of FHI360 Bangladesh in the implementation of a four-year ’Bangladesh AIDS Program’ funded by USAID, the role of RTMI was to foster institutional and financial capacity of the 30 implementing NGOs whereunder organizational assessment of NGOs was conducted using specific structured OCAT tools, training and onsite mentoring provided to partner NGOs. Similar capacity building support was provided to the REAL project (a livelihood project) funded by USAID through HKI. RTMI has also implemented the capacity building and BCC component of a 3 year ‘Demand-based Reproductive Health Commodity Project (DBRHCP)’ and the major activities under the project are to improve the managerial and technical capacity of at least 172 health personnel of the state-run local-level health service delivery points (Union Family Welfare Centers and Rural Dispensaries) as well as that of 3,400 workers belonging to the NGOs and private sector working in the project area.  UNHCR and health staffs working in Rohingya Refugee Camps in Cox’s Bazar have received training in different areas of reproductive and sexual health, family planning and education.

As an organization working in development sector for almost 20 years, RTMI has imparted many specialized training programs. Some major past assignments include: Training an Active Management of the Third Stage of Labor (AMTSL)  for service providers,  Competency Based Training (CBT) program on Emergency Obstetric Care (EmOC) in South Asian Region, training to District, upazila and union level Government health officials (3200) and 256 doctors and paramedics  on Syndromic management of RTI/STD, training on Population and Development issues to Senior planning officials of GOB, health training programs for 78 health professional under MoHFW and assisted GOB, International Medical College, American International University of Bangladesh and State   University of Bangladesh in developing Nursing, Community Paramedics, and Health Technicians curriculum. Apart from these MCH-FP training programs RTMI has also provided training to upazilla and district level officials of the Department of Livestock on Avian Influenza (AI) management and provided training on Human Resource Management, General Management, Leadership Gender, Governance, Strategic Planning and Entrepreneurship development for organizations working in anti-tobacco, livelihood issues and other Public Health areas.
