Policy Advocacy and Health Policy Reform

 

RTMI has expertise in policy advocacy involving government, NGOs and private sector institutions. It has conducted many policy dialogues with stakeholders on issues relating to Population Growth and Development Challenges of MDGs and PRSP; such as Urbanization, Environment and population growth; Violence against women; Legal and social security measures; Interaction between service providers and community leaders and community participation; and Addressing hard-to-reach, remote and low-performing areas to reduce fertility. The policy dialogues identified the long-term policy implications for government and helped reinforce the ongoing efforts towards development and poverty reduction. RTMI supported the MoHFW on policy advocacy issues that impede private sector from offering high quality nursing, midwifery, health technicians and paramedics programs. RTMI was able to conduct the advocacy programs as it has developed working relationship with the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Nursing Council of Bangladesh, Technical Education Board, Nursing Training Institute, Paramedics Training Institutes, Hospitals, Mass Media, Private Medical Institutions, Private Universities and Medical Colleges.

In addition, RTMI staff worked with the MOHFW in drafting policy guideline for GOB for offering B.Sc. course in Nursing in private sector. Team from RTMI has been working with USAID’s global flagship program Food and Nutrition Technical Assistance (FANTA) since 2010 for developing the PROFILES estimates and costing for Nutrition program in Bangladesh. With the findings, the team is currently is advocating with parliamentarians, policy makers, politicians and CSOs for developing Champions in Nutrition for taking the Nutrition agenda forward. RTMI has also conducted many events for World Bank, UNICEF, UNFPA, etc. involving key policy makers of the country and worked very closely with the print and electronic media through round table discussions. The Executive Director of RTMI (who has worked as a senior civil servant in the Government) is well known for his contribution in the development sector.  RTMI is participating in different national level committees formed by the GOB and in 2009, the president of RTMI was nominated in the WHO’s Advocacy Advisory Committee (AAC) of the Global Stop TB Partnership.
