Emergency Humanitarian Response

RTMI has participated in many humanitarian and development activities during the last 15 years. RTMI has a policy to work with the concerned government departments and development partners in case of emergency responses. Recently, RTMI has responded to both the post disaster ROANU and MORA and placed midwifes in Union Health & Family Welfare centrs (UHFWCs) in the coastal areas of Chittagong, Cox’s Bazar, Barguna and Patuakhali and distributed vouchers, RH kits, dignity kits among the affected women. Women and girls of reproductive age, and particularly pregnant and lactating women and newborn babies need immediate access to life-saving maternal and newborn health services. These urgent services include quality antenatal, intra-partum, postnatal, and newborn care, for detection of emergencies, linkage to health facilities, infection prevention and skilled birth attendance. The affected region of the country is known to be conservative. In this context conservatism correlates with more gender inequity, and less health seeking behavior in women. To support the reproductive Health services especially pregnant women, newborns and to maintain the dignity of women and girls, RTMI with the financial and technical support from UNFPA has started working in those cyclones ROANU and MORA affected coastal areas since July 2016. During Mar 2009 - Dec 2010 RTMI built the capacity of partner NGOs (PNGOs) of Helen Keller International working in SIDR cyclone affected areas, to meet the needs and rights of the affected people and to ensure the organizational sustainability of the PNGOs. In response to the recent influx of refugees from Myanmar to the Cox’s Bazar District of Bangladesh, we have deployed 61 Midwives for handling the Reproductive Health (RH) and Child Health (CH) issues in the Cox’s Bazar district. We have more capacity to respond to the emergency needs of the large influx of refugees particularly in Health, education, GBV, capacity building & training and HIV/AIDS issues.
