Running Activities of RTM International
RTMI is dedicated to transforming lives in Bangladesh through its innovative and impactful projects in health, nutrition, education, and social empowerment. Collaborating with esteemed donors such as USAID, UNICEF, UNFPA, UNHCR, IOM, UN Women etc. RTMI continues to implement programs that create sustainable and meaningful changes in the lives of marginalized communities. Below is an overview of our ongoing projects:
Strengthening Local Level Health Systems (SLLHS) – Bhitti Project
The Strengthening Local Level Health Systems (SLLHS) Activity, funded by USAID, is a transformative initiative aimed at improving health outcomes for all Bangladeshis by enhancing the quality, equity, and resilience of local health systems. Implemented through a consortium led by RTI International and comprising leading Bangladeshi organizations—icddr,b, RTMI, BRAC, and the University of Dhaka’s Institute of Health Economics (IHE)—this partnership combines global technical expertise with a profound understanding of Bangladesh’s unique healthcare landscape.
Through SLLHS, RTMI is contributing to measurable improvements in maternal and child health (MCH), family planning (FP), nutrition, tuberculosis (TB), infectious disease management, and pandemic preparedness. The project addresses systemic challenges, including weak governance, limited accountability, and gaps in evidence-based planning, to ensure more equitable and effective health service delivery at the grassroots level.
As a key consortium partner, RTMI plays a pivotal role in:
• Supporting the development of Health System Improvement Plans (HSIPs) based on local data and evidence.
• Building capacity for the delivery of quality public health services at the district and upazila levels.
• Enhancing emergency preparedness to ensure a swift response to health crises.
• Facilitating private sector engagement to optimize resources and expand access to care.

As a trusted partner, RTMI will gradually take over district-level operations, ensuring a seamless transition and long-term sustainability of improved health systems by Year 4 of the project. This initiative reflects RTMI’s commitment to advancing universal health coverage and creating resilient health systems that serve all Bangladeshis.
USAID Urban Health Activity: Transforming Urban Health Systems in Bangladesh
RTMI is honored to collaborate with JSI, the lead organization, and other consortium partners, including Dushtha Shasthya Kendra and BRAC University James P Grant School of Public Health, on the USAID Urban Health Activity. This five-year initiative, funded by the USAID, focuses on strengthening urban health systems to deliver quality, equitable, and resilient public health services for Bangladesh’s rapidly growing urban population.
Under the leadership of JSI, the consortium works closely with the Government of Bangladesh, city corporations, municipalities, and local health authorities to address systemic challenges and optimize resources. Together, we aim to build health systems that meet the diverse needs of urban communities, especially in areas like family planning, maternal and child health, nutrition, tuberculosis, air pollution, lead mitigation, and global health security.
As a key partner in this initiative, RTMI contributes by:
• Supporting local health authorities in analyzing urban health systems and conducting epidemiological research to inform planning and resource allocation.
• Strengthening access to comprehensive health services across critical disease areas, ensuring quality and equity for all.
• Empowering local stakeholders to create sustainable and shock-responsive health systems that address both immediate and long-term challenges.

This collaborative effort underscores the commitment to locally led development, emphasizing equity, resource optimization, and sustainability. By addressing root causes of health system inequities and fostering local leadership, the Urban Health Activity serves as a catalyst for transformative change in urban healthcare delivery.
